http://gongwt.com/show.php?ID=152980

Tear Down This Wall Expedition

September 8th – September 19th, 2009

The National Arts Club
15 Gramercy Park South, New York, NY 10003

Tear Down This Wall Foundation is very proud to announce that “Tear Down This Wall
Expedition,” a grand art exhibition tour, will debut at the prestigious National Arts Club in New York on September 8th, 2009.

Featuring a collection of paintings and sculptures by renowned international artists, the exhibition commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square demonstration and the fall of the Berlin Wall. The mission of this exhibition is to tell the truth, to commemorate the courage and sacrifice of freedom-seeking people around the world, and most important, to call for your action in tearing down any existing walls that compromise freedom – the most fundamental of all human rights!

Intended as a traveling museum for the democratic movements, the exhibition includes art work featuring the Tiananmen Square demonstration, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the current fight against censorship and the creation of internet “walls” against freedom. The exhibition will be a “hall of fame” for those heroes who initiated, motivated and activated those movements.

After the premiere, the exhibition is scheduled to tour Washington DC, Hong Kong, and will also visit Taiwan, Germany, the Czech Republic and Russia. Work by other artists will be added to the exhibition.

“Tear Down This Wall Expedition” is initiated by FANG Lizhi, LIU Gang, WANG
Juntao, WANG Dan, WEI Jingsheng, XIONG Yan, XU Wenli and other human rights activists who have made freedom-fighting a top priority in their lives.

Key Artists:

CHEN Weiming, who currently lives and works in Las Vegas after sculpting 18 years in
New Zealand, is well known for his work, including a sculpture entitled Tibet's Road to
Freedom, a bust of the Dalai Lama, a 20-foot statue of Democracy, and a statue of Sir
Edmund Hillary. Through his belief in the social responsibility of the artist, Chen brings his work to life not only with sculpting tools but with spirit and integrity.

Also trained in China as a sculptor and living in Las Vegas, YAN Yukun presents a different style in his sculptures. Yan is highly influenced by Dunhuang art, which is distinguished by figures created with a quality of refined and elegant ease.

ZHANG Hongtu established his career as a painter in 1970’s. Since moving to the United States from China in 1982, Zhang’s work takes a critical view of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, as depicted in his “Chairman Mao Series,” He is also well known for his deep immersion in both classical Chinese and Western modernist landscape styles. His recent landscapes are based on the Chinese practice of emulation through the copying of old masters. His subjects are traditional Chinese landscapes. However, he emulates a 19th-century European style and his medium is oil-on-canvas, rather than traditional Chinese ink-and-brush. Zhang was the subject of news reports last year after his painting “Bird’s nest in the style of cubism,” a rendering of Beijing’s Olympic stadium in a mock cubist style, was seized by Chinese customs authorities in advance of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Reasons given by the authorities for preventing the painting from entering China were as follows: 1. The colors of the painting are too dull; 2. The image of the Bird's Nest is no good; 3. The words on the painting are not acceptable. But nobody can stop this painting from being shown publicly in the U.S., and it will be included in this exhibition.

As an American artist, Robert R. Hieronimus, Ph.D., has been an acknowledged pioneer in the "New Paradigm" movement for more than 40 years. His highly acclaimed occult and symbolic Artcars and murals include the 2,700-square-foot prophetic "Apocalypse" at Johns Hopkins University, which led him to be hailed as "one of this country's best muralists" (Forecast Magazine). Art historian and critic Alan Barnet noted, "Hieronimus has a talent for winning the cooperation of the establishment while he lives and works in the counter-culture." Hieronimus’s most famous Artcar, the Volkswagen bus “Light” (better known as “the Woodstock bus”), was photographed by the Associated Press and
Rolling Stone at the original Woodstock festival in 1969, and this image continues to be regularly reproduced in media all over the world. A diecast model of Hieronimus’s painted Woodstock bus is produced by Sunstar Diecast in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival. His research into America’s symbolism has frequently been showcased on the Discovery, History, and National Geographic channels.

TEAR DOWN THIS WALL Expedition

TEAR DOWN THIS WALL – Expedition for Freedom

“Mr. Gorbachev, Tear Down this wall!” This was the call given by President Ronald Reagan in front of the Berlin Wall in 1987.

Two years later, the Berlin Wall, along with its builder the East Germany Communist Regime, was torn down in 1989.

President Gorbachev, along with President Reagan, became one of the heroes in the 20th century. We are grateful to President Reagan, for his initiative call for tearing down this wall. We are grateful to President Gorbachev, for his cooperative in the fall of the Berlin Wall. He could have sent tanks to have the Tiananmen Massacre happen again in Berlin, but he didn’t.

The Berlin Wall was torn down 20 years ago. But there remain similar walls, visible or invisible. The wall at the 38th parallel has been the most heavily guarded on earth – still a restriction on the right to travel. The Green Dam is the latest version of firewall built by the Chinese government – still an instrument to impose upon ordinary men and women the will of a totalitarian state.

Standing before the Brandenburg Gate, President Reagan has said, “As long as the gate is closed, as long as this scar of a wall is permitted to stand, it is not the German question alone that remains open, but the question of freedom for all mankind.” Today we say: As long as the 38th parallel is permitted to stand, it is not the Korea question alone, but the question of freedom for all mankind. As long as the Green Dam Firewall is imposed to block freedom of communication, it is not the China question alone, but the question of freedom for the whole world.

To celebrate the 20 years anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and to embrace the call of President Reagan, we launch this art exhibition – “TEAR DOWN THIS WALL”. We hope it will be a moving museum of the democratic movements that happened in 1989, including the Tiananmen demonstration, the fall of Berlin Wall, and the collapse of the Soviet Union’s communist system. It will be the hall of heroes who initiated, motivated, and activated those movements. The mission of this exhibition is to tell the truth, to commemorate the courage and sacrifice of freedom-seeking people around the world, and most importantly to call for your action to against any walls to compromise freedom – the very basic right of human being!

We urge you as individual to speak out loudly: TEAR DOWN THIS WALL – any wall against freedom! We urge you to stand with all who seek to exercise their rights of freedom.

Mr. Jerry Yang, Ms. Carol Bartz, and Yahoo, if you seek to be a giant not only technologically and financially, but also morally, come and join us to tear down this wall – the Green Dam firewall. The private emails you provided to the Chinese Courts has not only put innocent individuals such as Shi Tao into prison, but also scared all the Yahoo email users in the world. We understand that you have provided human rights funds to help some of the victims. But that is not enough. We urge you stop help totalitarian regimes to threaten and send innocent and freedom-seeking people to jail. We urge you to be on the side of freedom. TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!

Mr. Eric Schmidt, Mr. Larry Page, Mr. Sergey Brin, and Google, you are all the victims of the Green Dam Firewall. We urge you to join our Expedition for freedom. TEAR DOWN THIS WALL! We urge you to take actions NOW to defend your integrity. Let the innovation and technology serve the people, not the totalitarian regimes. Make the google.cn as truth-speaking as google.com, rather than another tool serving Chinese Communist ideology.

Mr. Bill Gates and Microsoft, we urge you to join our Expedition for freedom. TEAR DOWN THIS WALL! Freedom is violated and denied in China and other totalitarian countries. We urge you to take actions NOW to use technology and expand your philanthropic efforts to defend the very basic human rights and dignity.

Mr. John Chambers and Cisco, we urge you to join our Expedition for freedom. TEAR DOWN THIS WALL! We urge you to be with us in building a router that can bypass the Green Dam Firewall.

For all the leaders of the giant companies who have done business with the totalitarian regimes, if you seek moral prosperity for your company, if you seek to promote liberalization, come and join our Expedition for freedom. TEAR DOWN THIS WALL! We encourage you follow the example of Mr. George Soros to become an underwriter of freedom, to support the development of an open, democratic and civil society in the world. You all have chances to be listed in our hall of heroes.

Mr. Hu Jintao, we urge you to be on the side of freedom. TEAR DOWN THIS WALL! All violent and unjust actions against freedom must be stopped NOW! Chinese has the right to know the truth of what happened on June 4th, 1989. We call on your wisdom and courage to confront the biggest mistake made to Chinese people in recent history before we can seek a new beginning. You still have chances to be listed in the hall of heroes if you try to follow the example of Mr. Gorbachev.

For those who restricted by the 38th parallel, the Green Dam, the Golden Shield Firewall, and other evil walls, come and join our Expedition, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL.

Martin Luther King once said - "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." Let’s work together for FEEDOM, PEACE and HOPE!

Tear Down This Wall Expedition
